Gov. Candidates To Speak In Detroit

It's not a debate, but the two candidates for governor of Michigan will appear together Saturday night at the Arab American and Chaldean Council 31st annual Civic and Humanitarian Awards Gala in Detroit.

Virg Bernero and Rick Snyder will each have about seven minutes to make a speech about their vision for Michigan's future.

ACC spokesman Bob Ghannam said the Arab American and Chaldean Council does not make endorsements, but members look forward to working with the next governor.

"I think it's very crucial in the next 3-4 years how Michigan does a turnaround, and both candidates have a vision on how it should be done.  Ghannam said. "It'll be very welcome to have these two candidates and we're very happy that they're going to be with us."

According to Ghammam, some tickets are still available to for the gala, which will be held at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center. Funds raised by the event will benefit the ACC's services and programs which provide services to the Middle Eastern and mainstream communities in Southeast Michigan.

Both candidates participated in a discussion at the Economic Club of Detroit this month but it was a ticketed event. The only official scheduled debate of the campaign took place last Sunday in Wixom.

The election is November 2nd.
