GOP Bus Tour Making Final Swing Through Michigan
ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WWJ) - State Republicans are making one last swing before Tuesday's election with a bus tour that begins in Metro Detroit.
The bus took of following morning rally in Saint Clair Shores, making a half dozen stops before arriving in Jackson, the birthplace of the GOP.
Josh and Matt Romney are representing their dad, along with the governor, attorney general and several other state-wide GOP candidates in making their case for a change of leadership in Washington and to stay the course in Lansing.
"The middle class has been hammered by the failed economic policies of Pres. Obama and more than 23 million Americans are out of work or underemployed," Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak said in a written statement. "In the past two years, as a result of the common sense policies pursued by Gov. Rick Snyder, and the Republican led-House and Senate, Michigan is making tremendous progress after years of failure due to reckless Democratic policies."
"This November we will protect Michigan's progress from the damaging polices of Pres. Barack Obama by electing Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan -- America's comeback team."
Also on board is George Romney, grandson the former Michigan governor, who put in a few good words for his Uncle Mitt. "We get to stand on the shoulders of the patriots that came before us. They shed their tears, their sweat and their blood, and we get to stand with them and we get to defend our country in this election," he said.
Party officials say they will have made close to 4 million voter contacts by the end of the three-day bus tour, in their last push to close the gap with President Obama.
The bus tour schedule continues into the afternoon as follows:
4:15-5 p.m: Monroe Victory Center Event
6:15-6:45 p.m: Washtenaw Victory Center Event
8:00-8:30 p.m: Jackson Victory Center Event
