Good News For Drivers: Double-Digit Drop In Gas Prices
DETROIT (WWJ) - Good news for drivers! Gas prices statewide are down by nearly 16 cents this week.
AAA Michigan says Michigan's statewide average is currently $3.50 per gallon, which is 49 cents lower than this same time last year. Over the past week, the average price for self-serve regular fell 13 cents in Metro Detroit, with the average at $3.48 per gallon. That's slightly over 53 cents less than last year.
GasBuddy.com, meanwhile, says average retail gasoline prices in Detroit fell 11.1 cents per gallon in the past week, and were averaging $3.45/gallon on Sunday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 5.0 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.58/gallon.
"While gas prices in Anderson, SC have hit $2.99/gallon in the last week, nationally, pump prices have also seen drops amounting to an average drop of a nickle per gallon," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Prices finally have dropped under their year ago values, just in time for those last minute vacations before school starts. The rest of the summer will likely see prices flirting with where they stand today, but more significant relief will arrive around mid-September, when prices nationally could be 10-25 cents per gallon lower than where they are today," DeHaan said.
