Good Fortune Could Shine On Pistons During Draft Lottery

Pistons president Joe Dumars would rather be in Auburn Hills preparing for a playoff game, but it became clear in February that he would have a seat waiting in Secaucus, N.J., for tonight's NBA draft lottery.

This will be the Pistons' fifth trip to the lottery since its inception in 1985, and the first since 2001. For those who remember the Pistons having the second pick in 2003, it was the result of the Pistons trading Otis Thorpe in 1997.

With a 27-55 record, the Pistons are tied with the 76ers for the sixth-best chance in the lottery, but in the event neither moves up to the top three, the 76ers own the tiebreaker for the sixth pick, by virtue of a coin flip last month.
