Gold Cup Hydroplane Boat Races Draw To A Close
DETROIT (WWJ) - Sunday sparks the final day of the APBA Gold Cup Hydroplane Boat races along the Detroit River.
Thousands of people gathered at the races like Theresa Salinaz of Waterford.
"It's very exciting, especially sitting here in these seats (in the front row), some of the boats get very close... we were ready to jump," laughed Salinaz.
Not everyone shares her opinion though ... including four-year-old Matthew Wills of Chesterfield Township who spoke with WWJ's Beth Fisher.
"They are loud," said Matthew disapprovingly.
Matthew's dad says his son is a little afraid of the roar on the water...but most people say they love it.
Marti Kramer of Wixom was looking at the power boats in the pit area.
"It's awesome, this is a lot of fun, I like the excitement, the speed, the sound and being on the water, I love the water," said Kramer.
Kramer says his pontoon boat runs a little slower than these power boats.
The APBA Gold Cup Hydroplane Boat races benefited from the sunny weekend weather drawing huge crowds over the three-day event.
