GoGo squeeZ Recalls Applesauce Pouches That Might Contain Mold
DETROIT (WWJ) - It's time to check your pantry -- especially if you have little kids.
GoGo squeeZ is voluntarily recalling specific pouches of its applesauce pouches because the products could be tainted with mold.
The company said an issue in their recent production led to the development of common mold "like what can form on fruit" in a small number of pouches.
In a statement posted on the company's website, GoGo squeeZ says it was able to catch most of the affected products before they made it to stores. However, a number of products still may have reached the shelves.
The company said the outbreak is an isolated incident, which can happen with preservative free products. An independent lab tested the mold and a microbiologist determined that it poses no known health risk.
"However, we know mold is gross and unpleasant to look at or taste, and this is simply not the kind of experience we want you to have," the company said. "Quality is a responsibility that we take very seriously, and we apologize that this has happened."
The recalled products were sold in Michigan and other states throughout the nation. They contain a "Best Before Date" between 6/30/16 and 7/26/16. The code is located on the of the pouch or bottom of the box, near the UPC code.
No other GoGo squeeZ products are impacted by this recall.
As the company continues to restock their supply of applesauce, consumers are being notified that it might be more difficult to find GoGo squeeZ products on your store shelves in the coming weeks. "We sincerely apologize that this has happened, and we appreciate your patience and support," the company said.
Consumers with affected product are asked to notify the company and request a replacement voucher. You can do this online [click here] or by calling 1-844-275-5841.
