Godbee: No Disruption To Police Service
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee says there will be no disruptions to public safety service, including 9-1-1 calls, amid a major power outage downtown.
Speaking to WWJ Newsradio 950, Godbee said Thursday afternoon's widespread blackout has not affected Detroit Police headquarters on Beaubien, but he said they are being cautious.
"As a precautionary measure we're powering down some computers. As hot as it is, we're turning some air conditioners down, dialing them down ... just want to make sure we don't exacerbate the problem that's going on already," the Chief said.
Godbee said they do have officers staying overtime in case of any problems due to the power outage.
"My assistant chief, Chester Logan, who's in charge of operations for the department, he has made a decision to hold some officers over, just to be certain that we have some extra resources in the event, some support that we can get, any place in the city that this disruption could have any impact on public safety in the city," Godbee said.
Godbee said if they have to call in additional resources, they will.
