Godbee: Evidence Removed From Crime Lab
DETROIT (WWJ) - The cleanup of chemicals in the now-closed Detroit crime lab has been completed, according to Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee.
An investigation still continues into why evidence such as live ammunition and case files were left at the lab when it closed in 2008.
"Everything is packaged and it will be moved off-site, the appropriate way, and then at that point Michigan State Police can continue their investigation," Godbee said.
The lab was ordered closed in 2008 because of sloppy investigations. However, police apparently left behind piles of evidence in the building that
has been open to trespassers, including live ammunition and case files containing crime victims social security numbers.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy called for a Michigan State Police or other independent investigation into the case.
