GM Planning Major Announcement Monday Morning

Detroit (WWJ) - General Motors is expected to announce Monday morning that it's adding a third shift at its Flint assembly plant, along with 650 new jobs.

WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert is reporting that the market for pickups - particularly the heavy-duty ones made in Flint - has been very strong lately and that is why GM is adding the third shift. Nobody at the company has been commenting, but at the Auto Show, GM North America President Mark Reuss was optimistic heading in the new year.

"All those indicators are, are going in the right direction, so you know, you can expect some, some growth. There's pent-up demand, quite frankly," Reuss said.

Reuss will be at Monday morning's announcement in Flint, as will Michigan's new governor, Rick Snyder.

WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert will also be in Flint for the announcement. As soon as Jeff has news to report from Flint, you will hear it on WWJ Newsradio 950. Jeff's reports will also be posted on CBS Detroit.com.
