Gibson And Trammell Team Up Against Tigers
DETROIT (WWJ) - Kirk Gibson and Alan Trammell back in Detroit, this time as part of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Gibson was given the permanent job as the manager of the Diamondbacks after a stint as interim manager in the middle of the 2010 season.
Trammell is the bench coach with the Diamondbacks - Trammell and Gibson had the reverse roles when Trammell was manager of the Tigers and Gibson was Tigers' bench coach. The two were part of the 1984 Detroit Tigers World Series Championship team.
Gibson and Trammell will be on hand when the Detroit Tigers retire former Tigers' manager George 'Sparky' Anderson's number before Sunday's game.
"Everything that I wasn't when I came up, I am now. He taught me how to be a professional," Gibson said. "When we come into this game, I don't think we sometimes realize it's not about us. It's really about the game, and how long it's been, and the history of it, and all the great things that have happened."
The Tigers lost the first game 7-6 in the three game series against the Diamondbacks on Friday. Stay with 97.1 The Ticket as Detroit looks to grab game two against Arizona on Saturday - pre-game begins 6:40 p.m.
