Giant Tiger 'Undressed' For The Season
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Tiger statute outside the main gate at Comerica Park has been "undressed" for the season.
Workers removed the over-sized Carhart jacket that has been put on the cat the past six winters. Carhart is best known for its brown-colored overalls and jackets that outdoor workers favor.
The company is headquartered in Dearborn. Carhart Vice President of Marketing Tony Ambroza talked about how the giant jacket was made.
"We had to find a tape measure big enough to literally tailor it to his exact specifications. And we made it out of the same fabric we make a lot of our own jackets out of," Ambroza said.
Ambroza says when workers take off the Tiger's Carhart coat, it's unofficially summer in Detroit, and it's time to "Play Ball."
The 15' tiger is one of nine tiger sculptures designed and created by Michael Keropian for the stadium when it opened in 2000.
