Get Rid Of Your Household Hazardous Waste

MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - Keeping both Macomb residents and the environment safe is the focus of National Public Health Week activities in Macomb County.

Bill Ridella, Health Officer for the county's health department, urges county residents to drop off old medications and unused cleaning and gardening products at a household hazardous waste collection event this week.

Even old thermometers will be accepted.

"The old thermometers had mercury in them, and we still find mercury. People have it either in thermometers or they have jars of mercury that maybe grandfather left behind -- and so we gotta get rid of this stuff," Ridella said. "It's not good for our environment; it's not good for our health -- so we do take precautions."

The next collection event is Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Macomb County Health Department in Mount Clemens.
