Gen Xers Study: The Kids Are Alright
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - The University of Michigan Tuesday releases a decades-long study on the Generation that once inspired the term ... slackers.
WWJ's Sandra McNeill reports that 84 million people were born between 1960 and 1980. They are the first generation to be defined by the Internet..
U of M researcher Jon Miller says his 24-year study shows they work longer, make more, are better educated ... and are more balanced.
"They are pretty active, they go to school board meetings, they know people on the school board, they are active in their children's lives, they are coaching teams ... they are going to games that their kids are in, they are doing all kinds of things like that. I think the one thing they do less than their parents is sleep," said Miller.
Miller says they were never slackers. "I think there is a more conscious effort to be balanced," Miller said of the Gen Xers. "They're going to be characterized as the generation that carries their iPad with them ... everywhere."
The study finds members of the much-maligned generation are doing much better than their parents. Read more, here.
