Gavin Edwards: Where Are They Now? A Look At Conference Championship Weekend
Yesterday, I ran through the rather long list of athletes with state-of-Michigan ties playing in the NFL's Conference Championship games. To borrow the theme from Karsch & Anderson, I'd like to name the local champs and chumps from this weekend's games. To avoid K&A copyright infringement, I'll call them my Schamps and Schumps.
NFC Schamp: Greg Jennings – Jennings would be the champ even if he wasn't a former Western Michigan Bronco. All he did was end the day with eight catches for 130 yards…five of those receptions were for 20 or more yards. The Packers are on their way to Super Bowl XLV, marking the second-ever appearance by a Bronco in a Super Bowl (Tom Nutten was the starting left guard for the Rams in 1999). Hopefully some of that WMU luck works in the Packers' favor on February 6th.
AFC Schamp: Lamarr Woodley –Woodley's biggest play of the day came late in the first half: Jets' ball, first and ten at the New York 33. Woodley blasted through the New York O-Line and sacked Mark Sanchez. That sack pushed the Jets back seven yards, and just two plays later, a Sanchez fumble was recovered and run back by William Gay for a Steelers touchdown.
NFC Schump: Todd Collins – I'll let the stat line speak for itself: zero completions on four attempts for zero yards. Collins wasn't injured when head coach Lovie Smith pulled him with 57 seconds to play in the third quarter in favor of Caleb Hanie (the team's 3rd quarterback)…he was just awful.
AFC Schump: Bart Scott – After all the talk the linebacker did immediately following the Jets' win over the Patriots last week, Scott backed up all the noise with…two tackles. Poetic justice, indeed.
