Gavin Edwards: Signing Day Fast Approaching
National Signing Day is tomorrow, and colleges and universities across the country are gearing up for commitments from their top-rated targets. Locally, a lot of attention will be paid to The University of Michigan and new football head coach Brady Hoke. The Wolverines have received commitments from several 4-star recruits, including defensive back Blake Countess from Owings Mills (Md.) Good Counsel. Michigan is in dire need of secondary help, and has received commitments from three other DBs already. Also, Matt Wile, a 2-star kicker from California announced his commitment to the Maize & Blue a little over a week ago.
A bit north and west, the Michigan State Spartans already have a long list of commitments in their focus. Most notable may be Lawrence Thomas from Detroit's Renaissance High School. Thomas is a 4-star linebacker, a position the MSU defense has relied heavily on in recent years (Greg Jones and Eric Gordon). Mark Dantonio has received commitments from four offensive linemen, including 4-star guard Brandon Clemens from Milford (Pa.) Delaware Valley and Kyle Lints, the 6-foot-4 tackle from Traverse City St. Francis. While nothing can be guaranteed when it comes to recruits' success in college, the excitement and hype of National Signing Day can't be denied.
