Gas Prices Skyrocketing This Week
Be prepared to pay more at the pump. Gas prices are up -- way up from earlier this week.
Patrick DeHann from GasBuddy.com says that at some stations, prices are up as much as 20 cents per-gallon.
But, he tells WWJ Newsradio 950 that a little relief is on the way.
"January/February is typically the weakest time of year in terms of gasoline demand. That should ease pressure on prices to continue rising. So, we'll catch a bit of a break," DeHann said.
"I suspect that for the next month or month in a half we'll see prices range from about $2.90 to about $3.20," he said.
Dehann says while prices may stabilize, beginning this spring, gas prices could spike close to $4 a gallon.
"March, April and May -- that's a different story. As we approach the summer driving season, we typically see gasoline prices rally anywhere from twenty-five to fifty-percent," he said.
DeHann said, in Michigan, a few major service station chains seem to establish the prices. Then it's "follow the leader" as other stations fall in line.
