Furniture Fires Follow Spartans Loss To Duke
EAST LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Police and firefighters responded to several furniture fires and other disturbances in East Lansing following Michigan State's loss to Duke in the NCAA tournament.
The off-campus fires and large parties dissipated after 2 a.m. and no injuries were reported. East Lansing police said details about the incidents would be released Monday morning.
East Lansing has been the site of several past disturbances. Small fires were set last month outside an apartment complex following the basketball team's loss to Indiana on Feb. 19.
In 1999, property damage was estimated at up to $500,000 when the Spartan men lost in the Final Four to Duke.
Revelers then overturned cars, smashed store windows and set fires. Police arrested 132 people, including 71 Michigan State students.
