Funeral Held For Bank Exec. Found In Lake St. Clair
Mourners gathered Friday for a Michigan bank president who was shot in the head and whose body was found in a marshy area of Lake St. Clair. The funeral for 62-year-old David Widlak of Grosse Pointe Farms was held at Ss. Peter & Paul Jesuit Parish in Detroit.
Widlak's body was found late Sunday night near Jefferson and Shook roads in Harrison Township. An independent autopsy contradicting Macomb County medical examiner findings revealed a gunshot wound, and led to the Wednesday discovery of a handgun police believe fired the fatal shot.
Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel said police have no suspects and suicide has not been ruled out. The case is being treated as a homicide.
Widlak was last seen Sept. 19 at the Mount Clemens-based Community Central Bank Corp.
An investigation into the mistake by Macomb medical examiner Daniel Spitz is expected. The chairman of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners, Paul Gielegham, says he wants some answers.
"We need to pull out more details, we need to hear and talk with our medical examiner directly to figure out why this was missed," Gielegham told WWJ's Rob Sanford Thursday.
Gielegham said he's not even close to a decision on whether Dr. Spitz should be fired.
