Fundraising Goal Reached For Sculpture
The Arab American National Museum in Dearborn has reached its $10,000 fundraising goal to complete a sculpture of former White House correspondent Helen Thomas.
The museum says in a release that as of Friday $10,031 had been pledged for the project with one week left in the campaign.
Thomas was born to Lebanese immigrants in Winchester, Ky., and was raised in Detroit. She graduated from Wayne State University and worked much of her career as a United Press International reporter.
Museum officials were approached by former White House photographer Susan Tinsley McElhinney who sculpted a clay version of a Thomas bust.
Thomas resigned in June as a Hearst Newspapers columnist amid controversy over videotaped remarks she made calling on Israelis to get ``out of Palestine.''
