Fundraisers To Be Held For Family Of Father, Son Killed In Crash
NEW HUDSON (WWJ) - Support continues to pour in for the family of a New Hudson man and his 9-year-old son who were both killed last week in an early morning accident along Pontiac Trail in rural Oakland County.
A pair of fundraising dinners and a sports memorabilia auction are planned next week in memory of Pedro and Steven Montanez.
Kim Dancer, principal of Kent Lake Elementary School — where 36-year-old Pedro Montanez often volunteered, and his three children attended classes — talked with WWJ's Jon Hewett about some of the auction items.
"We have two sets of four Red Wings tickets for the tenth row. We also received a Tom Izzo-signed basketball with two tickets to a Michigan State game. We have a Red Wings team jersey that's coming to us, signed by the team," she said. "So we are getting a lot of donations."

The entire South Lyon school district is planning a "white out" during which everyone will wear white Friday in the family's honor.
The idea, Dancer said, came from students.
"I can't put into words how proud I am of the way the students have responded," she said. "When they were writing cards to the family, some of the letters I read brought tears to my eyes."
Tuesday's planned fundraising dinner will be held at Leo's Coney Island in New Hudson.

"This community is very special," said Leo's owner Sam Ayoub "It's like one family."
Two other children were injured in the crash Jan. 20, with snowy conditions and a pothole being blamed for the accident.
