Fundraiser Planned For Family Of St. Clair Shores Teen Killed In Crash
ST. CLAIR SHORES (CBS Detroit) - Family and friends of a St. Clair Shores teen killed in an accident over the weekend will host a fundraiser Sunday to raise money for funeral expenses.
Police say 16-year-old Aliyah D'Iorio was in an SUV with seven other people when the driver ran a red light and was hit by another car at Little Mack and 12 Mile Road. D'Iorio was thrown from the vehicle and died. The driver of the other vehicle was arrested for drunken driving, according to police.
A spaghetti dinner will be held Aug. 3 from 3 p.m. until 9 p .m. at Total Sports, located at 40501 Production Dr. in Harrison Township. A $10 per person donation includes pizza, pop, spaghetti, pop and dessert. There will be a cash bar and 50/50 raffle.
All of the money raised will go to funeral expenses and a fund to help D'Iorio's family. Children are welcome.
A note on the event's Facebook page reads:
"Aliyah lost her life in a tragic car accident involving a drunk driver. Aliyah was only 16 years old, a good student, and an outstanding soccer goalie with SUCH a bright future. She brought a smile to everyone's face every day! Her family now finds themselves suddenly faced with funeral costs and final expenses, which they are ill prepared for. PLEASE join us in helping to lighten that burden while attending a spaghetti fundraiser in honor of giving this beautiful girl a final resting that she SO deserves!"
Meantime, a "Give Forward" crowd-funding page had already brought in more than $4,000 as of Monday afternoon.
A candlelight vigil was planned for Monday at 9 p.m. on the Lakeview High School football field.
