Fundraiser Held For Family After Double Tragedy
EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - An Eastpointe family is holding an online fundraiser to cover funeral costs after a mother lost both her son and her daughter within an hour of each other.
Police said 21-year-old Brenda Tucker was at work at Texas Bar & Grill in Detroit on Sunday when took a gun into a back room and killed herself.
While Rose Tucker was waiting at the hospital to identify her daughter's body, she was told her son, 20-year-old Ricky Tucker, had died in a car accident while racing to meet her there.
Detroit Police spokesperson Kelly Miner said he apparently crossed the center line of E. Warren near Woodhall and crashed into an SUV.
"Our preliminary findings show that it was, it's just a tragedy all the way around, "Miner said.
"I just wanted to run away," Rose Tucker told the Macomb Daily. "I lost my heart and my soul right there, in the hospital."
Rose Tucker is now left with just one child, an older daughter, Amandajo Holman.
Holman told WWJ that the family appreciates the generous donations that have come in thus far.
"I didn't think my heart would be able to feel after losing my brother and my sister," said "And the fact that we have raised almost $1,200 so far just, within the past two days, I can't thank these people enough."
The family of Brenda and Ricky Tucker are hoping to raise $15,000. For information on how to donate, visit this link.
A visitation will be held at Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe, from 2 to 9 p.m. on Friday. A joint funeral service will be held Saturday.
