Frozen Body Found In Driveway ID'd As Missing Woman
DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a body found hidden underneath the snow in the driveway of a vacant home on Detroit's west side has been identified as a woman missing for three days.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as 54-year-old Kimberly Pettus, who was last seen on Sunday on Sussex Street, in the area of Grand River Avenue and Greenfield Road.
Pettus' body was discovered around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday outside of a home in the 14000 block of Prevost, near Greenfield and Schoolcraft roads, less than a mile away from where she was last seen. Police said she was discovered lying face up and partially covered with snow, wearing a jacket and with her pants pulled down to her ankles.
Other circumstances surrounding the woman's death remain unknown, and it wasn't immediately clear if foul play was involved. Family members believe Pettus attempted to walk to a nearby store after taking some medication and may have gotten disoriented in the snow storm.
Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to determine a cause of death.
Metro Detroit experienced record-low temperatures this week, tapping out at 14 degrees below zero, after a multi-day snowstorm left almost a foot of accumulation in the Motor City. Wind chills drove the temps even lower, making it feel more like 15 to 40 degrees below zero.
