Freeway Closures To Work Your Way Around

The first weekend freeway closure of the new year is in the works. Both directions of the Southfield Fwy/M-39 are scheduled to be closed between 8 Mile and M-10, 9 o'clock tonight until early Monday morning – although crews do plan to leave the NB entrance ramp from 8 Mile open. Telegraph Rd is a good alternate, or you can use the nearby surface streets like Evergreen or Greenfield. Even when the freeway reopens, the SB M-39 exit ramp at 8 Mile is scheduled to remain closed until October.

The following construction activities are scheduled. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to adverse weather or any unforseen circumstances.
M-39 (Southfield Freeway):
At the Detroit/Southfield border, partial bridge demolition will require both directions of M-39 to be closed in the vicinity of 8 Mile Road. The full closure begins at 9 p.m. on Friday and ends by 5 a.m. on Monday.
Detours will be posted for each direction, with northbound traffic directed to exit at 8 Mile Road, while southbound traffic will use M- 10 (Lodge Freeway) to westbound 8 Mile to re-enter southbound M- 39.
All lanes of the freeway below 8 Mile will be open by 5 a.m. Monday.
I-96:
In Oakland County, sign installation will require the two right lanes of westbound I-96 to be closed from Meadowbrook to Novi roads beginning at 7 a.m. and ending by 9 a.m. on Sunday.
In Wayne County, sign installation will require a double lane closure on the westbound I-96 local lanes from M-39 to Evergreen Road beginning at 9 a.m. and ending by 3 p.m. on Friday.
M-3 (Gratiot Avenue):
In Macomb County, beginning at 9 a.m. ending by 7 a.m. on Saturday, northbound and southbound M-3 will be reduced to a single lane over the Clinton River in Mt. Clemens. During that time frame, local streets, Wellington-Crescent and Clinton River Drive, will be closed. The local streets will open by 7 p.m. Friday.

At 7 a.m. Saturday, the northbound M-3 bridge over the Clinton River will be closed with a detour posted. Two way traffic on M-3 over the Clinton River will share the southbound structure. This configuration is expected to remain in place until the end of April.

CONCRETE DEBRIS: As a result of concrete debris periodically falling from a railroad bridge, W. Vernor Highway near 17th Street is closed until necessary repairs are made.
The City of Detroit has temporarily closed W. Vernor Highway between Michigan Avenue and Newark until bridge repairs are made by the Canadian Pacific Railroad (CPR), the agency responsible for maintaining the bridge.

In the meantime, motorists should follow the posted detours.
