Freedom Hill Amphitheatre Scheduled To Reopen
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ/AP) - Macomb County says Freedom Hill Amphitheatre is scheduled to reopen this summer.
The announcement was made Friday by Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel.
Freedom Hill Amphitheatre has been closed since 2009 and the surrounding county park area has been closed since 2010 in part because of budget cuts. Prior to closing, the Park at Freedom Hill had been the host to numerous unique special events on a regular basis, including festivals, car shows, outdoor markets, special shows, dances and concerts.
"We see the reopening to be a win for everyone," Hackel said. "The public will have greater access to national entertainment opportunities and local businesses will benefit from more customers coming to the area. It is just one more reason why people would want to make Macomb their home."
The county says the venue's operator Hillside Productions is to reopen it under the terms of a previous agreement it had in place with Macomb County.
"We are eager to begin discussions on how to reopen surrounding park facilities and once again host festivals and events," said Hackel.
