FREE HIV Testing Available Today
DETROIT (WWJ) - Do you know your HIV status? Thursday is National HIV Testing Day, and several sites around Metro Detroit are offering free testing.
S.T.A.R. Foundation, Henry Ford Hospital and Wayne State University are sponsoring an event Thursday at Youthville Detroit.
Sinai Grace HIV Program coordinator Evelyn Postell-Franklin says help is available for anyone who tests positive.
"We have a number of primary care facilities," Postell-Franklin told WWJ Health Reporter Sean Lee. "And because we try to maintain the confidentiality of our patients, again, we don't often advertise, but care if available — free of charge."
HIV, Human immunodeficiency virus, is the retrovirus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), a condition which progressive failure of the human immune system allowing life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancers to thrive.
Testing open to the public from noon until 4 p.m. at Youthville Detroit located at 7375 Woodward Ave. Detroit, MI 48202.
