Fraternity Votes To Disband U-M Chapter For Vandalism At Ski Resorts
ANN ARBOR (WWJ/AP) - A University of Michigan fraternity is being disbanded after some of its members were involved in vandalism at ski resorts in Northern Michigan.
The Sigma Alpha Mu International Board says in a release Tuesday that it also voted to permanently suspend the charter in Ann Arbor.
The board says chapter officers refused to identify members who damaged the hotel property and that those responsible for the damage have not come forward. It also calls the behavior of those involved "abhorrent."

Six fraternities and sororities from the school damaged doors, furniture, fixtures and carpet at Treetops and Boyne Highlands in January. Damage, legal fees and other expenses will cost about $430,000 at Treetops Resort in Gaylord. About $30,000 in damage was done to 12 condos at Boyne Highlands near Petoskey.
Members of the campus community at large are condemned the events that took place Jan. 16 to 18 saying the students' poor behavior reflects negatively on the entire university.
U-M spokesman Rick Fitzgerald had previously said that the university would suspect Sigma Alpha Mu for four year following the incident. The Sigma Delta Tau sorority, meantime, was suspended from U-M for two years for failing to intervene to stop the damage.
Both group were ordered to pay restitution to Treetops and the city of Gaylord.
