Frank Beckmann, Voice Of Michigan Football, To Retire After 2013 Season

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) - Beginning with the 2014 season, the radio voice of Michigan football will not be that of Frank Beckmann, who has been calling games for the Wolverines since 1981. Michigan announced Beckmann's retirement Friday, three weeks before the start of the season.
"We appreciate all that Frank has done for Michigan football for the past 33 years," athletics director Dave Brandon stated in a press release. "Frank has dedicated his Saturday afternoons to telling the story of Michigan football through the radio to our fans. His voice has become synonymous with some of the great calls in the history of our football program. We look forward to enjoying one more season of Frank being the voice of Michigan football before he begins his well-deserved retirement."
One of just two play-by-play men for the Wolverines on their flagship network over the last 65 years, Beckmann succeeded Bob Ufer in 1981. Both have been inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.
