Fort Drum Latest Military Base Using Jackson Firm's Efficient Lighting
JACKSON -- The United States military is the single largest consumer of energy in the world. And now it has discovered EverLast induction lighting for street and area lights from Jackson-based Full Spectrum Solutions Inc.
Fort Drum in upstate New York is the latest military base to install the lighting -- more than 1,100 EverLast Bi-Level cobra head and shoe box fixtures.
"When I began working with the base as an energy consultant, they were already aware that replacing their inefficient lighting was one of the fastest ways to reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs," said Stuart Kirscht, vice president of Retro-Tech Systems Inc. "They originally considered LED technology as well, but after looking at tangibles such as ROI, performance and sustainability, the induction products manufactured by EverLast Lighting quickly became the obvious solution."
Said Katherine Hammack, assistant Secretary of the Army for installations and environment: "Lighting efficiency improvements present a clear opportunity to decrease energy consumption, which is a priority for the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense and for the entire federal government."
The fixtures installed at Fort Drum replaced an array of existing lights base wide including metal halide, mercury vapor, and high pressure sodium. According to sources involved with the project the fixtures were the solution of choice because of their 100,000 hour lamp life and high efficiency. Additionally, the U.S. made fixtures met the "American Made" requirement for the U.S. military.
"EverLast has designed enhanced features into its U.S. Bi-Level cobra head fixture which exceeded the government requirements tied to ARRA funding programs delivering a product which is made in the U.S," said Ryan Miller of Atlantech Inc. "Because EverLast was proactive in the development of several features in the parking lot lighting solution, that eliminated tons of service related challenges. A conservative estimate places the energy savings in excess of $250,000. The ROI for EverLast is monumental compared to other lighting solutions."
Fort Drum is one of the largest military bases in the world, occupying more than 108,000 acres of land and supporting the assembly of almost 80,000 troops annually. The fort has a U.S. history dating back to 1908 and serves as the home to some of the nation's most famous military units.
