Former Utica Teacher Gets 20 Years In Child Porn Case
DETROIT (WWJ) - A former special education teacher in Utica has been sentenced to 20 years in prison on child pornography charges following a federal investigation.
United States Attorney Barbara McQuade said 62-year-old Gary Kliebert of Washington Township was sentenced in Detroit on Friday. The Macomb County man pleaded guilty last year to receiving child pornography. His attorney had requested an 8-year sentence.
According to court documents, Kliebert was arrested March 2011 after a federal search warrant executed at his home revealed 872,138 videos and images of child pornography hidden in a concealed basement compartment. Investigators say the content was stored on several computers and digital storage devices.
During an interview with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security agents, McQuade said Kliebert also admitted to illegal sexual contact with underage family members. Subsequent interviews with the family member confirmed his admission, according to court documents.
Kliebert was a teacher with Utica Community Schools for 32 years. He retired in 2008.
