Former Red Wing Ted Lindsay's Foundation Makes Big Donation In Fight Against Autism
DETROIT (WWJ) - A hockey hall of famer is doing his part in the the fight against autism.
Detroit Red Wings fans know #7 Ted Lindsay as a hero on the ice — but to families living with autism, he's a hero for a very difference reason.
Lindsay's foundation has donated $1 million to the Beaumont Children's Hospital Center for Hope, for the treatment of autism.
He says it's gratifying to see the money help not just kids, but their families too.
"It pleases you that you're able to raise money to help them out," said Lindsay, "to make their life maybe just a little bit more pleasant."
Three-year-old Olivia Dobrzechowski began treatment at the center in February, and her dad Jim says Olivia's progress is remarkable.
"We've seen more eye contact. We've seen her do little things that everyone takes for granted, like letting your brush her hair," he said.
