DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) - Over a decade removed from his 14-year NBA career, former Detroit Piston Dennis Rodman is featured on this week's cover of Sports Illustrated's "Where Are They Now" issue. See it here.
As Rodman kicks back in an elaborate red chair, a bird of prey spreads its wings as it sits on Rodman's hand.
The headline on the cover deems Rodman a "Free Bird," with the subhead, "Dennis Rodman tries to save the world one after-party at a time." Rodman is quoted as saying his mission is to bring peace to hostile countries.
Rodman is renowned for his superb rebounding, his championships with the Chicago Bulls in 1996, 1997 and 1998 and most of all for his weirdness. Rodman made international headlines recently for a trip to North Korea - which had been frequently threatening missile strikes against the United States - during which he met with the country's leader Kim Jong Un.
Sports Illustrated also featured Rodman on its cover on May 29, 1995 - with the label "Rare Bird."
