Former Lion Roy Williams Gets Engagement Ring Back
We're still without football, but it's been a busy week nonetheless for Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams.
We wrote Tuesday that Dallas could end up releasing Williams to save a few bucks and to give Dez Bryant more playing time. And Wednesday, our CBSSports.com colleague Will Brinson pointed out that Williams was suing his girlfriend, 2009 Miss Texas USA Brooke Daniels. Williams sent Daniels a $76,000 engagement ring through the mail, and, understandably, he wanted it back when she said "thanks but no thanks" to his marriage proposal.
Daniels' father told the Odessa American that "[Williams] said to her, 'I'm not like a lot of people, I don't want the ring back. You'll eventually come back to me,' and she didn't." Apparently, Williams had a change of heart, and he was willing to file a lawsuit to get the ring back.
Well, there's a happy ending of sorts.
Still no wedding bells in the future, but TMZ reports that the ring was returned to Williams' attorney Wednesday. There are several lessons to be learned here. First, as Brinson wrote yesterday, "Know for a fact that when you propose, (your ladyfriend will) say yes." And assuming she's up for it, whatever you do, DO NOT send the engagement ring via the United States Postal Service. In addition to it possibly getting lost, we're guessing women, in general, don't find postal-mail proposals particularly romantic.
