Former Head Of DPS Kenneth Burnley Dies After Surgery

ALASKA (WWJ) - Some sad news to report on this holiday weekend.  Former Detroit Public Schools CEO Kenneth Burnley has reportedly died in Alaska following complications from knee surgery.

Burnley died Saturday following the surgery last week.  Burnley headed DPS between 2000 and 2005.

Before his untimely passing, he had been superintendent of a smaller school district, in the Mat-Su Borough community about 35 miles north of Anchorage.

Mat-Su Borough School District Board President said in a prepared statement that, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Burnley's wife, Eileen, his children, and their families."

Burnley was 69, at this time funeral arrangements are not known.
