Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick Wanted In 2 Courts
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has a full day of court appearances on his planner.
Kilpatrick's corruption trial in federal court is resuming Wednesday morning after a one-day break. Then, in the afternoon, he's due in front of Judge David Groner at Wayne County Circuit Court.
Groner, the judge who sent Kilpatrick to prison for violating probation in a case that forced him out of office, is looking to get an update on restitution.
Kilpatrick still owes the city of Detroit more than $800,000 as a result of his 2008 conviction for obstructing justice in a civil lawsuit when he was mayor -- and prosecutors say they never received his $500 November payment.
On Facebook, Kilpatrick posted about the issue, saying he did make the payment, only four days late: "Never been late or missed payment before, but media, court and prosecutors are up in arms. It's causing yet another major distraction in the city," he added.
Kilpatrick, his father and a third man have been in a federal trial, accused of bribery and widespread corruption.
