Former Detroit Cop Killed In Denver
DENVER (WWJ/AP) - A former Detroit Police Officer has been killed while working security detail in Denver.
Denver Police say 21-year-old Rollen Oliver was taken into custody late Sunday for the shooting death of 32-year-old Celena Hollis.
Police say Hollis was in uniform and off-duty when she was shot in the head during a disturbance at a public park over the weekend where she was working security detail at a free jazz concert.
Oliver was arrested after witnesses gave a description of the gunman. Police also recovered a gun and said they believe Oliver was the only person involved in the attack.
Hollis, a single mother of a 12-year-old daughter, moved from Detroit to Denver in 2005 to be near her parents and sister. Denver police Sgt. J.D. Unser said Hollis was happy to come to the city, which she considered safer than Detroit.
Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee, in a statement, said that Hollis' death will be difficult and challenging for those who worked with her. On behalf of the Detroit Police Department, he expressed his sympathy to her family, friends and colleagues.
