Forecast: Even Busier Holiday Travel Season
DETROIT (WWJ) - This year's holiday travel rush will be a little busier than usual.
David Fishman with Cadillac Travel says that's because many airlines have consolidated and merged, meaning there are fewer flights available.
"A lot of people thought, 'Oh, this is great,' because now it's one airline and I'll get all my frequent flyer miles on one airline and, you know ... there will be more flights and the rates will go down. Actually, the opposite has happened: there's less flights, the rates have gone up," He said.
Fishman said there is a trick to booking cheaper flights.
"The main secret to traveling airline travel is flexibility. If you're flexible then there's a chance that you'll get whatever the best available rate is," Fishman said. "If you're not flexible and you have to fly at a certain time or on a certain day, then you may have trouble getting deal."
Thanksgiving weekend is typically the busiest travel time of the year.
Fishman said, with fewer seats available, holiday season travelers should book soon if they want to make sure they'll be able to get where they're planning to go.
