Ford To Idle 3 Plants Abroad
DETROIT (WWJ) - Ford is idling three of its plants, all outside the U.S., because of parts shortages from Japan.
WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert reports that Ford is suspending work at plants in Taiwan, China and South Africa due to parts issues.
In the case of two of the plants, a one week idling scheduled for later in the year was moved forward, the Taiwan plant however, is running out of parts and will be down two weeks.
This is not expected to have an impact in the U.S. Toyota says that its production in Japan has fallen 63% in March following the earthquake, which may cause Toyota to fall to third in the global sales race this year behind GM and Volkswagen.
