Ford Field To Bid On NCAA Basketball Regionals
DETROIT (AP) — Ford Field plans to bid on another NCAA men's basketball regional but the city's only Division 1 school won't be involved in the process.
Ford Field vice president of events Kelly Urquhart-Kozole on Tuesday said the stadium will join the Mid-American Conference in bidding on regionals in 2014 and '15. She said Eastern Michigan University also could be partner.
The home to the NFL's Detroit Lions and Mid-American Conference also announced an extension to host the MAC football title game through 2015.
Ford Field drew then-record crowds when it hosted a regional in 2008 and welcomed the Final Four a year later. The University of Detroit Mercy was the host institution for both events.
