Ford: Clogged Roads A Threat To Auto Industry
BARCELONA, Spain (WWJ) - The great-grandson of Ford Motor Co. founder Henry Ford says the threat of the future to his company and other automakers is completely clogged roads.
Bill Ford Jr. will tell a mobile electronic device conference in Barcelona, Spain, on Monday that the world's roadways will become paralyzed as the world population grows by another 2 billion people to 9 billion in 40 years. By one estimate, there are already 1.2 billion cars and trucks on the world's roads, and another 144 million will be added in just four years. Ford says he doesn't have a solution but some helpful technologies are less than five years away, including a radar-based cruise control.
