Focus Hope Gets Muscle From Lansing To Box Food For Those In Need During Holiday
DETROIT (WWJ) - Focus Hope received a little help from Michigan governor Rick Snyder and his family, packing boxes for seniors during the holiday season.
Governor Snyder, his wife Sue and their two daughters packed boxes of food along with other volunteers at the Focus Hope warehouse.
"I'm happy to say we did 1,500 boxes which is 45,000 meals," said Snyder. "And the real credit should go to Focus Hope for all the great work they do, day in and day out for seniors and so many other people in Detroit."
"Another program we have with Focus Hope that they are participating - Community Ventures - which is about helping them get that first job," said Snyder. "It's actually focused on helping the structurally unemployed - the people who have the most difficulty finding a job."
He says the program has placed over 1,000 people in jobs this year and there is an 80 percent retention rate.
Snyder encourages people to volunteer and says the Michigan Community Service Commission has more information on how you can help - HERE.
