'Flying Nun' Building For Sale
DETROIT (WWJ) - The "Flying Nun" building in downtown Mount Clemens is now up for sale.
Known for its undulating roof-line, the building at 77 South Main Street was built in 1961 by famed Detroit architect William Kessler. It originally cost $3oo,000 to build and is now on the market for $275,000.
Macomb Deputy County Executive Mark Deldin said they are looking for serious buyers to take on the building, which once housed The Bank Nightclub.
"(We're looking for) vibrant business -- something that will attract even more people to the downtown Mount Clemens area," he said.
Deldin believes the outward appearance 8,000-square-foot building would attract many different types of businesses.
"It's a very, very unique building," he said. "People dubbed it the 'Flying Nun' building because it looked like her habit."
Upon earlier attempts to sell the building, the county attracted many potential buyers but went unsold.
