Former Dearborn Man Gets 30-60 Years For 1991 Murder
DEARBORN (WWJ/AP) - A 45-year-old Florida man has received a 30- to 60-year prison sentence after accepting a plea deal in the 1991 rape and killing of a mother of five at a metro Detroit social agency where she worked as a custodian.
Kelly M. Brady was sentenced Wednesday in Wayne County Circuit Court in connection with the death of 62-year-old Gracielita Flores. The Fort Pierce, Fla. man was originally charged with first-degree murder but pleaded guilty Nov. 18 to second-degree murder.
Flores was working at the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services in Dearborn when she was killed July 12, 1991. Police say Brady was trying to burglarize the center, where he also worked, when he killed Flores. He then fled the state.
According to prosecutors, Flores died of blunt force trauma after she was beaten with the smaller end of a fire extinguisher. Her body was found by firefighters who responded to a series of arsons at the center.
Police say the case remained unsolved until Brady confessed in 2012.
