Flooding Closes Michigan Avenue And West Grand Boulevard For Hours
DETROIT (WWJ) -- Flooding forced Michigan Avenue to shut down in both directions, while one direction of West Grand Boulevard in Detroit was closed for hours on Friday afternoon, as water spanned a few blocks down both streets.
Detroit Water crews turned off the water to a broken water main, which helped ease the extensive flooding and allowed traffic to resume. The deepest parts of the flood covered the entire wheel-wells of the vehicles trying to drive through the wake.
One of those affected, Mike Jenkins, encountered what he called "Lake Michigan."
"This is the first time -- I've been coming down here more than 20 years -- but this is the first time that I've ever seen it this bad," Jenkins said.
