Flooding Closes Williams Lake Road At Dixie

WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Following the morning's heavy rains, water over the road is causing problems for drivers in Waterford Township.

Officials says Williams Lake Road west of Dixie Hwy. is closed due to the weather and also a malfunctioning drain.

WWJ spoke with Road Commission of Oakland County spokesman Craig Bryson who said they are using tanker trucks to clear the road of water that is at least a foot deep.

Bryson suggests that motorists do not attempt to drive through it.

"It's deep enough that we've got barricades. And, this morning before we were able to put the barricades up, we had Waterford Police out there preventing traffic. I mean, your car is not gonna make it through on that Williams Lake Road," he said.

Their hope is to have the road re-opened sometime in the afternoon -- depending on the weather.

"We have a perpetual flooding problem there, every time we have a lot of water. Because there's a failed water Water Resources Commission drain over there. We're pumping the water out but, you know, it takes time. And if we get some more rain today it may delay our ability to get that road back open," Bryson said.

Meantime, the drain in question is awaiting repairs.
