Flooding Causes Freeway Closures Overnight
ROYAL OAK (WWJ/AP) - Flooding caused problems for morning commuters in the Detroit and Flint areas Friday.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reports I-75 was shut down in both directions underneath I-696 because of water over the roadway. Efforts to clear the water were hampered by a power outage in the neighborhood. MDOT crews were called and arrived with a generator to clear the flooding and the road was opened just before peak traffic hours.
Further north on I-75, a dozen cars were stranded and northbound I-75 was closed Friday morning in Genesee County's Flint Township, where there is up to 4 feet of water on the roadway. I-75 in both directions remain closed between Miller Road and Corunna Road.

A flash flood warning was issued for the Flint area, including Genesee and Shiawassee counties, due to the storms. The area got up to 6.5 inches of rain Thursday night. The National Weather Service says law enforcement officials closed numerous area roads and reported some flooded homes.
