Flood Watch Issued For Southeast Michigan
DETROIT (WWJ) - The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for portions of Southeast Michigan until 7:00 pm Saturday.
The watch has been issued a portion of Southeast Michigan including Lenawee, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.
Rain through the afternoon, along with snow melting on the frozen ground, could lead to excess runoff into small streams and creeks, as well as in areas with low or poor drainage.
Forecasters are especially keeping a close eye on the lower Rouge River and the Clinton River.
WWJ's Beth Fisher talked to Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel on how the county is preparing to take action.
"We're just preparing for it. We can utilize the watershed here in Macomb-Oakland County... in terms of Macomb Township area, Clinton Township area where we have the lowest branch, as low as the Clinton River," Hackel said. "As you mentioned, it is a concern because most of that comes right down here to Lake Saint Clair."
Hackel said the county has not experienced any problems yet, but will close the roads if it becomes necessary.
If you live in an area that is prone to flooding, monitor the forecast for the latest conditions and be prepared to take action should flooding occur.
