Flood Causes Backups On I-75 Near I-94 In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Drivers were left feeling waterlogged on I-75 in Detroit Tuesday morning, as flooding closed part of the freeway.
Vehicles were crawling by on the left shoulder of southbound I-75 as they approached I-94 under the Grand Boulevard overpass, trying to escape the flood.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reports a power outage at the pump that clears the water off of the road hampered efforts to clear traffic from the freeway. Generators were brought in to get the pump working again.
Flood waters seeping through the median barrier wall were also causing problems in the northbound lanes of I-75.
"I'm coming around the curve here about 55 miles per hour, 60 maybe, and you just run into a pool of water and I just skidded out and ran into the embankment," said Ray Boluth of Grosse Ile, who crashed his van in the left northbound lane.
Flooding was also reported on westbound I-94 at Little Mack.
