Flint Manager Ends Pay For Mayor, Council
FLINT (AP) - Flint's new emergency financial manager has ended pay and benefits for the mayor and city council.
Michael Brown didn't stop there Friday. He fired seven people, including city Administrator Greg Eason and his executive secretary.
Brown tells The Flint Journal that he needed to "start at the top." He warns that more cuts are coming.
Brown is a former Flint mayor who was appointed emergency manager on Tuesday. A state review found the city has deep financial problems and has shifted money around to try to make ends meet.
Flint, population 102,000, is one of four Michigan cities to have an emergency manager. The others are Benton Harbor, Ecorse and Pontiac. Detroit schools also have a manager.
