Flight Attendants To Protest At Detroit Metro Airport
DETROIT (WWJ) - Spirit Airlines Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), will conduct a nationwide picket on Friday, March 25 to protest management's refusal to negotiate a fair and timely contract. Flight Attendants will begin their protest at Detroit Metropolitan Airport at 3 pm Friday.
"Spirit Flight Attendants are standing together and sending a message to management: we deserve a fair and equitable contract that reflects the important contributions we make to the bottom line of this company," Todd St Pierre, AFA Spirit President, said in a release. "As first responders and safety professionals, Spirit Flight Attendants deserve a contract that reflects our vital role. We are an important part of making this airline successful and management has serious work to do to meet the needs of Flight Attendants. We will not rest until we have a new contract that reflects the priorities of Spirit Flight Attendants."
Spirit management has a long record of dragging their feet during negotiations. Last year, Spirit pilots shuttered the airline for five days after failed contract talks. The strike resulted in a ratified new agreement for the pilots that contained pay increases and enhanced work rules.
